Michelle Nālei Akina Named Lunalilo Home Administrator

J. Kūhiō Asam, MD, Executive Director, and the Trustees of the King William Charles Lunalilo Trust have announced the appointment of Michelle Nālei Akina as the organization’s Administrator.

 A graduate of Punahou School and Cornell University, Nālei attained her Master’s in Public Administration with a concentration in non-profit management from the University of Hawai`i.  Her career achievements include Business Management with the New York City Ballet and Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Executive Director for the National Asian Women’s Health Organization and most recently as a Healthcare Policy Analyst in the Office of Strategic Management at HMSA.

Nālei comes to Lunalilo Home with a strong Hawaiian background as a Kumu Hula and was the co-founder and co-director of the Hawai`i  Cultural Foundation.  She is a Trustee for the Ka`ohuokalani Foundation and the Friends of `Iolani Palace and is a consultant for the Papakōlea Community Development Corporation and Eldercare Management Project.

As the Administrator, Nālei will oversee the day-to-day operations of all departments and Managers of the 42-bed Adult Residential Care Home established by the Will of King Lunalilo.  While giving preference to Native Hawaiians, the Home and Adult Day Care Center are both currently open to all applicants. 

Dr. Asam will continue as Executive Director of Lunalilo Home and Trust.
