Residential Care

There may come a time in our kupunas’ lives when it is difficult for them or their families to have them live in their community home. This may be the result of increasing supervision needs, declining ability to care for themselves, the inability of the family to provide the appropriate care, or the loss of social and emotional stimulation due to becoming home bound. It is at these times when an alternative home setting may be required. Lunalilo Home offers a home like environment within a Hawaiian atmosphere.

Lunalilo Home is licensed by the State of Hawai`i Department of Health as an Adult Residential Care Home (ARCH) providing 24-hour supervised care and supportive services that include room and board, all meals and snacks, laundry services, assistance with personal care, hygiene and grooming aid, health status monitoring, first aid, implementation of physicians’ orders, professional consultation, as well as recreational, cultural and spiritual activities, all within a setting reminiscent of a Hawaiian home.

Admission requirements include a current physical examination, laboratory tests, x-ray, and a tuberculosis clearance. Preference is given to kupuna of native Hawaiian ancestry, and in keeping with King Lunalilo’s will, subsidies, to the extent permitted by financial variables, may also be provided to those of Hawaiian ancestry.

Temporary Care

Being a caregiver for kupuna may, at times, become burdensome and require a period of reprieve or respite from the responsibilities of that important kuleana. This allows the `ohana to refresh their own health and well being in order to better care for their kupuna. Other situations such as the desire for a vacation or unexpected need to travel or be away from the home present a situation in which the kupuna will need a temporary place to reside.

Lunalilo Home provides 24-hour supervised care for the elderly for short periods of time ranging from two to thirty days. It is temporary, alternative care and respite for care providers. Those kupuna who are living at Lunalilo Home temporarily enjoy all of the services and activities available to the long-term residents.
